It is hard work being a man, and it’s even harder to try and be a great man. I know you are busy and you carry a lot on your shoulders every single day. Do you ever get to the end of the day or the week and you just want to collapse on the coach in exhaustion? I know I have. We work long hours, day in and day out we labor to produce, to provide for our families. Some of you might be working two jobs, some of you might be similar to me, balancing a full time job, starting a business of your own, being a husband, and a father, while working on your health, striving for a strong spiritual life and trying every now and then, to stop to smell the roses and have fun. A question for you, what happens if all you do is work and work and work for a paycheck without stopping and getting clear on your purpose?
You will fall into the dangerous cycle of pain that so many fall into:
Without having a purpose you lose passion and that leads to feeling like everything you do is boring, or pointless, you become apathetic to the world and those around you. And to bring some energy into your life you turn to porn or alcohol or overeating or isolation and you think to yourself this pleasure will feel good. But then you realize as quick as that pleasure hit your body it is gone just quick and all you are left with is a pain. And because you want to do good, you get back up the next morning and go back to work and start the cycle all over again.
You Are More Than a PayCheck
Too many men have been convinced by this world that their value rests in what you produce, what your paycheck says. And so, millions of men get swept up by the wave of constantly wanting more and they pour their lives into work and earning money. We do thi because we have a lie we are believing that says something to the effect of, “if I make more money than my wife will respect me.” Or “If I buy a house then I would have proven to everyone that I can provide for my family.” Or one of the lies I hate the most has to do with how we are perceived. For example, “if I buy that new high end sports car then I would be perceived as successful and my business would grow or my social media would blow up. Whatever lie you hear right now in your head about your worth being based on your work, release that now!
The sad thing is I do believe that you are more than a paycheck, however the only who can make that belief true for you is you! If you do not work on changing this belief then you will become what you believe and for some you are stuck in the paycheck identity.
2 Questions To Find Your Purpose
Let’s start simple. What the heck do you want? I know it is such a simple question but when you have been swept up by the wave of the world that says just put your head and just work, us men can let our dreams and desires dissolve into a faint forgotten idea. So again, I ask;
- What do you want? Take 5 minutes to pray and ponder, to mediate and ask yourself, what do I really want in my life? What do I want 3 months from now, 6 months from now and even 1 year from now?
- Next, I want you to ask yourself what do I need in my life? Ask yourself, is there an area out of the Super Six that I need to improve in?
The Worst Time To Find Your Purpose
I remember it was November 2014 my wife and I had been married for just eight months and were seven months pregnant with our first daughter. I was working on climbing out of a dark pit I got myself into because of bad association, bad choices and alcohol. I was driving on the freeway and this idea hit me like an arrow through the heart. I wanted to be a great man, I wanted to consistently do well in all areas of life, but I knew I could not do it on my own. And so, right then and there God gave me the idea to start this crazy group of men who believed they could be HeRose and also recognize they can’t do it alone. I started HeRose selfishly because it was what I needed.
I called my wife and dropped the bomb on her, I told her I feel like God is calling to start this group and I feel like I have to start it in Januray. You could imagine what was going through her head at the time, it definitely was not the most convenient time to pursue this, but I knew and I think she did as well, I needed it. The first six years I focused on me and I grew in all Super Six, I have become clear on what my purpose is, I have a passion for what I am here for and I am experiencing a peace like I have never felt. Now, my need has changed to a want and a must, I want to give any man willing the opportunity to live his life on purpose daily. I have a duty to my purpose now, I must reach into the lives of men and challenge them to live whole man success, to truly live as HeRose.
