Learning Saved My Life
The life I live is filled with blessings and joy. I am truly living my dream life. I am happily married to my highschool sweetheart and our relationship is better than ever. I am thankful for the last twenty years with her. I have three daughters that I know individually, that I spend quality and quantity time with. I am proud to say they love me more than I deserve and I enjoy watching them grow. I own two businesses and I get to decide how my schedule works on a daily basis. I am living my purpose through serving men and helping them transform their lives by becoming the HeRose they were created to be. And because of the abundance we see in business my wife stays home full time with our three daughters to homeschool them and run operations for the businessines.
I can go on and on, my point is not to impress you but to impress upon you the importance of tenaciously learning and improving in all areas of life. Over ten years ago I was at the lowest part of my life, I had just got out of jail and was out of a job and had no purpose in life. I made a decision to take learning and improving like it was life or death, because it was, and it still is. I prayed that day and opened my bible to seek God’s wisdom for my life. I also began reading Wild At Heart. Learning transformed my life and it can do the same for you.
Competitive Advantage
As entrepreneurs we are always looking for the next big thing that will grow our business, increase our followers, improve our marketing, or help us launch that idea we have been sitting on for a while. In his book The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization Peter Sengae says, “in the long run the only sustainable competitive advantage is your organization’s ability to learn faster than the competition.” Right there in black and white is the answer to all of our entrepreneur problems, learn! Here are the three steps you need to take in order to actively learn and grow:
- Define – You have to first determine what you want. Don’t just start browsing without an intention, or focus, you can easily get lost in a black hole of useless information. Here is a practical way to approach this step. Look at all the Super Six areas of your life and define the results you want in each one, write them down, and share them with your core group of men,
- Learn – Decide what to learn, where to learn it, and who to learn it from based on what you want in your life. There is a great saying that illustrates this perfectly. “You will know them by their fruit.’’ What this is to learn from people who have the results you want in life. Let’s say you want an apple, you will not go over to an orange tree looking for an apple, so be clear on what you want, then be clear on the source of where you are seeking that learning from.
- Do – Now for the last but very important step, take action on what you learn. What does it benefit you to have all of the most useful information and wisdom if you never take action. A pro tip here, keep track of your progress of implementation and join a group of men to help you stay accountable to the plan of action you have decided to take.
