Who You Are is Not Who You Think You Are
We tend to identify ourselves with external things. Most of us identify ourselves with things that bring a sense of self fulfillment, safety, and security.
Perhaps you place your identity in your business, your career, your family, your status, your body and looks, or your education and knowledge.
But all these things you find “identity” in are not who you are.
You build an image of who you think you are based on what you identify with from your past experiences and future desires. And from what your mind can gather, the present “you” will act in accordance with these factors.
Once your mind is so focused on a certain identity of who you think you are, your world can only revolve around what you identify with. You will have repeating patterns in your life because you can only identify with something you chose.
This is a very narrow and limited way of thinking. The reason you have trouble with identity is because you project your sense of self and what you identify with on things that are not you.
Who Are YOU?
In Michael Singer’s book, Living from a place of Surrender, he explains that you are not your thoughts, but you are the one observing your thoughts. You are not your body, but you are the one looking at your body. You are not even your name, but you are the one who responds to the name given to you.
He sums it up nicely by stating: “you are the one who experiences all of what comes in through your consciousness. There is only one being in there and that is who you are.”
You do not need to go “find yourself” because you are already there. You are the persistent consistent being that is unconditional and always there. You are Enough and already filled with Joy, Bliss, Peace and Love. The nature of your being is beautiful.
The powerful truth of “who you are” is very simple but we complicate it by placing limited thoughts of identity, and then we decide to go after it with everything in our limited power of self will.
You must die to be reborn
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
The above passage of scripture indicates that man has the ability to operate in the same divine higher consciousness as Jesus Christ did while he walked on this earth.
To actually get back to a more simple state of being in your true identity you must die to “self”. Mortify the members of your body that have to do with self pride and the lusts of your false identities. These things must pass away and be killed off.
There is only one simple truth to help you in this transformation process of dying to be reborn:
Are you willing to “Let Go” of who you thought you were?
Clarity does not come by adding more complexity to life and becoming something you are not. Clarity happens when you surrender to live a life in a manner that aligns your inner soul with your highest being.
The Hero version of yourself is your reality that will be reborn as a result of your identity transformation.
