3 Ways to a Super Six Pack – No, Not Your Abs

When people find out that Gina and I have 3 children that we homeschool, a full time job, two businesses, and that we strive for fulfillment in our faith life, our health and fun sometimes they wonder how we balance all of it. Especially since we are both incredibly busy, our schedules are full. For business I spend a lot of time traveling and working long hours.

Have you struggled with figuring out how to balance work and family? The burden can be a lot to carry and it only gets more difficult as life goes on, and as the number of kids increases, or as your job or business continues to prosper. You  are not alone in this struggle, I deal with this on a daily basis. In HeRose we strive to have a Super Six Pack, no not your abs, we are talking about the Super Six Areas of Life:

Super Six

  1. Health
  2. Wealth
  3. Relationships
  4. Spiritual
  5. Mental
  6. Adventure

We want each one of these categories strong and fully taken care of, and yes just like a six pack of abs it will take hard work, discipline, and consistency.

3 Ingredients for a Six Pack

  1. Get Together, Together

I often joke and tell people that my wife Gina is the COO of the household. There is more truth to that statement than people realize. My wife is phenomenal at raising three girls under 7years of age, with two in homeschool and the other on her way. Not only does she homeschool and cultivate the souls and minds of our daughters daily. She also manages everything and anything to do with the household. On top of that she is my business partner and helps with strategy and operations for both our businesses.

Getting together, together  is connecting with your partner or family members and planning out what is the main focus for the season of life you are in and delegating appropriately. Right now, my wife and I got back to intentionally scheduling time away from the house to plan and coordinate all of the things she handles.

We can’t do what we have to do as men unless we are connected, and communicate with our partner and family about our schedules and priorities. Make time to check in weekly with each other, to ensure you are progressing forward in all categories that are important.

  1. Sacred  vs. Softball

There are so many things that are pulling for me in this season of life. I have three young daughters who cry every time I walk out the door. I have a wife who I would love to spend every second of the day with. I have two businesses and a full time job which requires me to drive world service everyday.

Recognizing this, I have had to make some sacrifices in my life. I love sports, playing, watching, and talking about them. However, right now in this season in order for me to be faithful to the highest priority roles in my life I will often choose to miss things like softball and beer with the guys. Right now my role as a husband, father, entrepreneur,  and leader of men are at the top of my priority list, so I have to choose and remove what does not align with that in this season.

  1. Present is Power

Once I decide what roles are most important in my life, the next thing to do is to ensure I schedule the time I need to be present for each one of those roles. I am working daily to continue to make my schedule sacred.

Whether I am at work, with my daughters, or on a date with my wife, I have put it in my calendar so it’s planned and so that I can be fully present. There is nothing worse than having a husband or father physically present but mentally and emotionally distant.

When I am with my amazing wife, with any one of my daughters, at work, or with a client I am committed to giving them my everything. I have vowed to be fully focused on serving them at that moment. Scheduling and planning helps me be present, and being present gives me power to serve to my highest capacity.
